Abstract

Facing the gig economy, the world today is witnessing the increase of digital platform businesses (such as internet taxis, providing services and sending goods), which makes it difficult and complicated to apply human resource management functions common in traditional businesses. The aim of the current research is to analyze two different aspects of training gig workers and the opportunities and challenges facing it. In terms of the type and nature of the data, the current research method has a qualitative approach with a multi-case study method and is practical in terms of purpose. The statistical population consists of five platform businesses, including Punisha, Hami Works, Snap, Tapsi, and Carlancer, of which 18 people were selected using the purposeful sampling method and snowball fan. The data collection tool is semi-structured interviews which have been analyzed by thematic analysis method. 118 concepts were identified in the form of 12 sub-themes and 4 main themes. The main themes are training with the logic of competence development and training with the logic of cost-benefit in the general category of training opportunities and limitations of investment in training from an individual perspective and challenges facing platforms in training in the general category of limitations of training gig workers. By taking action to remove the identified limitations of education, it is possible to take advantage of the opportunities and positive results of gig job training courses.
