Abstract
This qualitative research aimed to explore the perceptions of knowledge-based and technology company managers in Yazd City, Iran, regarding the reasons for the unpreparedness of bachelor's graduates for employment. This study used a phenomenological approach to explore the experiences of 10 managers from knowledge-based and technology companies in the Yazd Science and Technology Park. The participants were selected through purposive sampling. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with the participants, and the data obtained was analyzed using Smith's method. To determine the validity of the data, the triangulation method (member checking, peer examination, collaborative research, and researcher reflexivity) was used. The researcher performed the coding process and another expert in the qualitative field, and the results were compared. The analysis revealed three main themes: (1) Weakness in acquiring soft, cognitive, and technical skills (11 sub-themes), (2) Poor quality of university education (5 sub-themes), and (3) Deficiencies in policymaking and planning (5 sub-themes). Based on the findings, educational policymakers and planners can identify factors that hinder graduates' employment in knowledge-based and technology companies and take necessary steps to prepare them for such employment.
